On the chilly night of November 3, 2007, 35-year-old Angie Denise Tucker stepped off her mother’s porch near Apache Street and Yale Avenue in North Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was walking to a local store to pick up a pack of cigarettes. She wore casual capris and her black hospital work jacket from the Oklahoma State University Medical Center, walking with a very distinct, slight limp.
She told her family she would be right back. She never returned.
When Angie uncharacteristically missed her hospital shift two days later, her worried coworkers sounded the alarm. The investigation quickly turned to a dangerous shadow looming over her life: her ex-boyfriend, Allen Shields. Weeks prior, Angie had bravely filed criminal charges and secured an emergency protective order against him following a violent assault. Yet, the justice system let him walk out on bail—leaving Angie with nothing but a fragile piece of paper for protection.
